Meeting Minutes for 09/08/2020
Hoopla 2.0 Demo for Consortiums (James Gonzalez, Midwest Tapes)
- Hoopla would like to partner with our libraries with their blended models
- They are looking at one copy/one user (OC/OU) model
- The collection is flexible to the needs of each library or consortium
- Two different borrowing models
- Hoopla Instant Borrows where titles are always available for a cost-per-use and simultaneous use titles
- Hoopla Flex Borrows where titles are one copy/one user
- Transparency of models for collection development
- Most patron facing changes are already in effect
- The new flex borrower model should be available for beta partners in November
- Hoopla is working with partner libraries to come on board now to get on the onboarding queue
- Hoopla is working on consortium support that will be available in 2021 which means that libraries will be able to share titles on one platform
- Hoopla support comes with a dedicated Hoopla coordinator that helps with the onboarding process and market materials
Q & A
- Q: For one copy one user titles, would it be possible to have short checkout periods, such as a few hours?
- A: The checkout period could be set very similar to the OverDrive lucky day one copy/one user collection.
- Q: How will all these new features affect the Hoopla API?
- A: Working with different APIs to build out the capability so patrons can see if a title is a flex borrow or instant license title in the catalog
- Q: Will Kanopy be converted to be lendable?
- A: The next generation of Hoopla is mainly focused on eBooks and eAudiobooks on the platform for now, before tackling other formats
- Q: How is a record distinguished within a record set by the library since an API is not being used to fetch records?
- A: James offered to have their Marc record person contact Marmot to address what Hoopla will be able to do to identify libraries who own records
- Q: Have you looked into offering alternative login options? The current login process is highly problematic for CMC users. CMC is looking for an easy one-step login process through OpenAthens or direct Single Sign-on.
- A: James asked for time to get a response to this question for Marmot
OverDrive Cost Per Circ (CPC) Titles (Tammy)
- How these CPCC titles affect Pika
- CPC titles show the wrong availability in OverDrive and Pika
- This is due to the fact that OverDrive shares every format of a title except for simultaneous use. This creates issues with the availability of the CPC titles.
- Any person who signs in on the OverDrive site will have access to any CPC title purchased by their library
- Otherwise, the person will be prompted to place a hold
- Any person using the Pika interface will first see the OverDrive Check Out button
- When they click on the OverDrive Check Out button and sign in to Pika, a message box will appear stating there is a check out error with a link for them to place a hold.
- Presentation slides
- Documentation on how to find CPC titles in OverDrive
- CPC titles show the wrong availability in OverDrive and Pika
