Other discussion topics
Sierra API bug for holds with status In-Transit (Minute16:13;23)
- Sierra API does not reliably report the ‘in-transit’ status with INN-Reach holds and regular holds.
- The item displays as ‘on hold’ and remains in the pending holds section.
- This was called out during the January 7th meeting under the discussion topic of “Sierra / III ticket concerning item hold status from API” (Minute 30:07;17).
- With a hold that is actually in-transit, the API will usually fail to report that the item is in-transit.
- There is a support ticket that was opened up with III about this issue.
Cataloging Nerds Collective
-
Ashley will be sending Doodle Poll to schedule our first meeting - aiming for mid-February.
3 versions of Pika are now copyrighted officially (Minute 19:17;21)
- Fork from VuFind.
- Fork with Sierra API integrations.
- Marmot will copyright Pika on a yearly basis to make sure we have a version of our code that is officially protected by copyright provision.
Reports from libraries on special projects
- Girls Who Code (GWC) and Marmot partnership
- GWC is a non-profit organization that gets its funding from major technology companies.
- GWC addresses gender inequity within the fields of computer science by encouraging girls to get involved in coding clubs.
- Currently, they have two different levels. One for elementary level and another for 6 grade up until senior level.
- They are starting to put together a version of a higher education partnership.
- Marmot libraries are able to register for Marmot-aligned GWC clubs and receive more funding.
- GWC clubs come with a predesigned curriculum and no coding knowledge is required from library staff or volunteers.
Next Meeting is Tuesday, March 3, 2020
