- Sierra Loan Rules and Loan Rule Determiner Walkthrough (04/27)
- The Loan Rules table is the core of what makes things check out in Sierra a certain way. Combined with the Loan Rule Determiner table these two are the primary drivers in circulation including resource sharing. Marmot Staff maintains the parameter tables for your sites. However, working knowledge of how the system works will empower staff to make better decisions about changes or additions to your existing loan rules as well as understanding why materials circulate a certain way.

- This session will go over the Marmot Cataloging Standards document. Including local subject headings, volume numbers, keeping records out of authority control, sharing MARC records, managing DVD sets, and book club kits. It is intended for catalogers new to working in Marmot, but all are welcome.

- Making Record Changes Using Rapid Update & Global Update (04/24)
- This training will show you how to use the Rapid Update function to add a message to a group of records. We will be using Global Update to remove the message from the same group of records. The Rapid Update function will be used to change the expiration date on patron records, as well as changing the status of item records. We will demonstrate how Rapid Update can be used to put the inventory date of records by scanning the barcodes of the individual items, as well as using a review file from Create Lists.

- Sierra Record Templates Overview Training (04/23)
- Discussion on how the loan rule table affects record templates. How changing the invalid text background helps with finding invalid or blank record template fields. This training will cover creating a new template; editing a template; deleting a template. The record template naming convention will also be discussed. How to add and remove templates from the Preferred & Other Template boxes. Discussion on different ways to prompt for templates using the New Records tab.

- Spring is a great time to clean out the clutter and reorganize. This also applies for Sierra as well. During this session, we will go over a number of reports built-in Tableau that are designed to help clean up some inconsistencies in your records.

- This session will look at what Sierra Macros can and can’t do. We will look at how to create them, including using the codes for various keystrokes and using groups of Macros for more complex operations. Also, how to add a pause in a macro and how to trigger a macro with a barcode scanner.

- This training will discuss how to easily build and share users lists from Pika to coincide with reading lists on your library’s website and help push curated content to your patrons. We’ll also discuss how to easily post content from Pika, both lists and titles, on your library’s social media sites to help engage your patrons with library holdings from the platforms they’re already using.

One learning objective is a better understanding of the fixed and variable fields located in the bibliographic, item and patron records. Another learning objective is how to use the fixed and variable field toggles to view record information in a review file. Participants will be shown how to use the Command Choice of change fixed-length fields to change item record status as well as the patron expiration date.

- This training is designed to provide library staff with a basic understanding of the Sierra Circulation Functions of Check Out (Circulation Desk), Renew (No Patron), Search/Holds, and Check In (No Patron). At the end of the training you should have a better understanding of how to check out items to patrons; how to change the item due date; how fines are displayed in a patron’s record; how to see holds on a patron’s account; how to renew an item without using the patron’s record; how to use the Search/Holds function to search for items, as well as viewing items that are on hold, or checked out to a patron; how to check-in items.

- Create Lists - Adding Barcodes to a Review File (04/13)
- To create a review file from a list of barcodes you will need to use the JSON feature in Create Lists. JSON stands for Javascript Object Notation and is based on a subset of the Javascript Programing Language. This training will show attendees where to find the documentation for this process. How to use Notepad ++ to add the needed formatting to work in JSON. Attendees will be shown how to export the review file of barcodes. How to compare the original list of barcodes to find any barcodes that may not have been imported into Sierra. Lastly, attendees will be shown how to look for missing barcodes using a review file in Create Lists.

- Ever wonder the process a hold takes in Sierra? Well, today is your lucky day. This presentation is a repeat from a popular presentation given at the 2015 MUG conference. We will be discussing the different settings that make holds function correctly. We will also discuss functionality in Sierra the makes function correctly. After this session participants will be able to apply the knowledge gained to ensure proper functionality of their holds.

- Cataloging - Authority Work (04/10)
- Lloyd is considering joining the Mountain West NACO funnel for authority records. This would give us a mechanism to create authority records for local authors and any other name authority records we might need created or fixed. Anyone who wanted an authority record could work with Lloyd to gather the information we would need to send on to the funnel. We can use this meeting to discuss if this is worthwhile for Marmot, and how we could implement it.

We will be going over the Marmot support form and where to find it on the Marmot OverDrive site. Learn how to sign in to Marketplace to use the End-user support tabs, and how to submit a ticket. At the end of the training, you will be shown the permissions that are needed to be the OverDrive support person for your library.
